Employment Opportunities for Pharmacy Students in Health System Specialty Pharmacy

In this episode, we will explore employment opportunities for pharmacy students within health system specialty pharmacies. This podcast will also provide the framework of how to design and establish such opportunities within a health system specialty pharmacy. Lastly, this podcast will review enrichment opportunities for pharmacy students employed within a health system specialty pharmacy.

SPEAKERS

Ruth ChenRuth Chen, PharmD, MHA joined the Ochsner Specialty Pharmacy (OSP) team in 2021 as a clinical pharmacist supervisor after completing her postgraduate years 1 and 2 HSPAL residency. Through residency and her current role, she has worked with several pharmacy disease states and medications. She has also worked on projects related to health outcomes and increasing medication access. She is committed to providing quality patient care and increasing access to specialty medications for all patients regardless of their socioeconomic status to manage their chronic medical conditions.

Nehrin KhamoNehrin Khamo, PharmD, CSP earned her PharmD degree from the University of IL College of Pharmacy; in 2011 she joined Specialty Pharmacy Services team at UI Health. She is currently the clinical care center coordinator for Specialty Pharmacy Services at UI health. In her current role Dr. Khamo oversees a team of specialty pharmacists and technicians and ensures accurate, efficient, and appropriate drug distribution services are provided to specialty patients.

Brooke Rauch, PharmD, CSP is currently the director of operations for the University of Kentucky Specialty Pharmacy and Infusion Services team. She oversees the specialty mail order operation, as well as sterile compounding to support the ambulatory infusion center. She received her PharmD from the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy and is a Certified Specialty Pharmacist (CSP).

Rebecca FreedmanRebecca Freedman, PharmD, RPh is a clinical pharmacist at Cleveland Clinic Specialty Pharmacy currently working primarily with biologics on the Inflammatory and Allergy Team. She also has a passion for Hepatitis C and helped to create, and continues to contribute to, the Ohio Hepatitis Academic Mentorship Program.
