CDC recently released the Core Elements of Antibiotic Stewardship for Health Departments to outline the structure and activities of state and local health department antibiotic stewardship programs. The podcast will highlight opportunities for pharmacists to partner with state and local health departments to optimize antibiotic use in their communities.

Destani Bizune, BA, MPH, (she/her) has been an epidemiologist in CDC’s Office of Antibiotic Stewardship since 2019. Her focus is on state health department partnerships and outpatient stewardship. In addition to conducting outpatient antibiotic prescribing research and surveillance, she also manages the administration of a large stewardship grant to over 60 state, local, and territorial health departments. Ms. Bizune received a BA from Duke University and an MPH from the Emory University Rollins School of Public Health.
Sarah Kabbani, MD, MSc, (she/her) is an adult infectious disease physician and the deputy director of the Office of Antibiotic Stewardship, Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion, National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Her areas of concentration include older adult and long-term care antibiotic stewardship.
Melinda Neuhauser, PharmD, MPH, FCCP, FASHP, FIDP is pharmacist and acute care lead for Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Office of Antibiotic Stewardship in the Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion. Melinda graduated from University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy and completed her infectious diseases residency training at Detroit Receiving Hospital and fellowship training at University of Illinois at Chicago. Prior to joining the CDC, Melinda worked as the National Clinical Pharmacy Program Manager in Infectious Diseases for the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) Pharmacy Benefits Management Services and Co-Chair of the VA National Antimicrobial Stewardship Task Force. She also previously worked as clinical pharmacy specialist in infectious diseases at National Institute of Health Clinical Research Center as well as University of Houston College of Pharmacy/MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Shaina Bernard, PharmD, (she/her) has served as the antimicrobial resistance coordinator at the Virginia Department of Health since 2018. In her position, she oversees antimicrobial stewardship efforts and antimicrobial resistance surveillance and investigations.
Mandana Naderi, PharmD, MPH, BCIDP, (she/her/hers) is an assistant professor at the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy. She also serves as the lead antimicrobial stewardship expert at the Arizona Department of Health Services in Phoenix, AZ. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Washington State University and completed a PGY2 pharmacy residency in infectious diseases at the University of Arizona/Banner University Medical Center in Tucson, AZ. She also earned her Master of Public Health degree from the University of Arizona. She continues to maintain her clinical skills as an acute care hospital staff pharmacist.
Anna Legreid Dopp, PharmD, (she/her) serves as the senior director, government relations at ASHP. Prior to this role, Dr. Legreid Dopp served as senior director of clinical guidelines and quality improvement. She was also the vice president of public affairs for the Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin, practiced as a clinical pharmacist at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics, and served as a clinical assistant professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Pharmacy. Dr. Legreid Dopp received her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy and was a Congressional Health Policy Fellow with the United States Senate. She is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality.
