In anticipation of the Midyear Clinical Meeting, ASHP is hosting a series of podcasts focused on highlighting key sessions, hot topics and “can’t miss moments.” Hosted by Cynthia Von Heeringen, Education Director on the National Meetings Team at ASHP. On today’s episode we are sitting down with Dr. Arjun Srinivasan and learning more about his session, New CDC Requirements for Antibiotic Use Reporting and Opportunities for Antibiotic Stewardship. Arjun SrinivasanDr. Arjun Srinivasan, MD, (he/him) is the associate director for Healthcare Associated Infection Prevention Programs in the Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. He is board certified in Infectious Diseases. Before coming to CDC he was as assistant professor of medicine in the Infectious Diseases Division at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine where he was the founding director of the Johns Hopkins Antibiotic Management Program and the associate hospital epidemiologist. His primary responsibilities include oversight and coordination of efforts to eliminate healthcare associated infections and reduce antibiotic resistance. His research and investigative areas of concentration include outbreak investigations, infection control, multi-drug resistant gram negative pathogens and antimicrobial use. From 2006-2010, he led the CDC’s healthcare outbreak investigations team. He currently leads efforts to coordinate activities to prevent healthcare associated infections and to improve the use of antibiotics in hospitals through antibiotic stewardship. Dr. Srinivasan has published more than 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals on his research in healthcare epidemiology, infection control and antimicrobial use and resistance.

Cynthia Von HeeringenCynthia von Heeringen is a scientific project director, educational programs at ASHP and is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing medical education, continuing professional development programs, and other clinical resources for pharmacists and other healthcare professionals. This includes developing educational content for ASHP’s national meetings, industry supported activities, and certifications product line. With extensive experience in acute care clinical practice and operational supervision, she is passionate about medication safety and process optimization. She is a graduate of the University of Rhode Island College of Pharmacy.
