One core outcome of a residency is learning how to precept. In this episode of Educator Essentials, we talk about how incorporating the four preceptor roles of Instructing, Modeling, Coaching, and Facilitating throughout the resident’s year can increase their precepting confidence and success.
SPEAKERS
Emily Cowan is an experienced clinical pharmacy specialist at UPMC Health Plan in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy from Duquesne University School of Pharmacy in 2014. Emily is enthusiastic about pharmacist training and education and serves as Residency Coordinator for UPMC Health Plan’s PGY1 managed care pharmacy residency program. In addition, she precepts the residency program's prior authorization and teaching/preceptorship rotations, and has experience precepting pharmacy students and training pharmacists of all experience levels.
Molly McGraw is the Manager of Clinical Pharmacy at UPMC Health Plan in Pittsburgh, PA. In this role, she oversees clinical pharmacists on the Care Management Pharmacy team and assists in the development and implementation of pharmacy clinical programs. She also serves as the PGY1 Managed Care Residency Program Director. She graduated from the Duquesne University School of Pharmacy, and completed her PGY1 and PGY2 (Critical Care) residency training at Allegheny General Hospital.
Georgia (Gina) Galanou Luchen serves as the Director of Member Relations at ASHP, serving as staff liaison to the Section of Pharmacy Educators and Section of Community Pharmacy Practitioners. In this role, Dr. Luchen leads the development and implementation of programs and resources related to pharmacy learners, schools and colleges of pharmacy, and pharmacy educators. She also leads initiatives related to community pharmacy practitioners and their impact throughout the care continuum. Dr. Luchen is a graduate of ASHP's Executive Fellowship in Association Leadership and Management in Bethesda, MD. She received her Bachelor’s in Pharmaceutical Studies and Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy and completed a PGY1 Community-Based Residency at the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy in conjunction with Balls Food Stores in Olathe, KS.
