Pharmacy Technician Education: Bringing Academia to the Pharmacy Technician Workforce

In this podcast, speakers will discuss both the tangible and intangible benefits of creating, implementing, and facilitating a comprehensive advanced-level ASHP/ACPE-accredited pharmacy technician education and training program. Topics such as job satisfaction of preceptors, retention of graduates, and continual professional development of pharmacy technician colleagues will be explored and discussed.

SPEAKERS

Jamie Collett Jamie Collett (he/him) is a pharmacy technician supervisor working for the Mayo Foundation. He has nearly 25 years of experience in pharmacy, including over 17 years in management roles. Jamie thoroughly enjoys working in pharmacy and is excited about what the future holds for pharmacy technicians.

Cassie FohrmanCassie Fohrman (she/her) is a technician supervisor at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. She also serves as an experiential site coordinator for the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences Pharmacy Technician Program and is an instructor of pharmacy for Mayo Clinic College of Medicine & Science. Fohrman was selected to provide professional development opportunities and to recruit, train, and retain our critical pharmacy technician workforce. She has worked in various roles in the pharmacy profession over her nearly 25-year career.

Bradley Lorang Bradley Lorang (he/him) is a pharmacy education specialist at Mayo Clinic and is the associate program director for the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences Pharmacy Technician Program. With experience in both private and public educational roles, Lorang began his pharmacy career in 2007 as an inpatient pharmacy technician. His positions have included working with compounded sterile preparations (CSP) and serving as a CSP instructor and preceptor. In recognition of his dedication to the pharmacy profession, Bradley received the 2023 MSHP Outstanding Pharmacy Technician Award.

Matthew Rewald Matthew Rewald (he/him) is the manager of pharmacy technician education at Mayo Clinic and assistant professor of pharmacy at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine & Science. Rewald has served in the pharmacy profession as an inpatient and outpatient pharmacy technician, supervisor, and instructor in many settings throughout his career. He is currently serving as the vice chair of the ASHP/ACPE Pharmacy Technician Accreditation Commission (PTAC), which serves both the ASHP and ACPE board of directors as the national accrediting review committee for pharmacy technician education and training programs.
