Digital therapeutics is an emerging class of therapies that utilizes technology and software to treat disease, both as a standalone or for treatment optimization. Diabetes is one such disease state that can be managed from the advent of digital devices including continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems. CGMs automatically track blood glucose levels and translate the data for current and historical trends and allow the patient and care team to modify treatment and behavioral decisions. As digital health devices are becoming more common, this podcast will ensure you are equipped to answer questions about glycemic management and make the best recommendation for your patients.

Christie Schumacher is a Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Director of the PGY2 Ambulatory Care Residency Program at Midwestern University College of Pharmacy, Downers Grove Campus and a Clinical Pharmacist at Advocate Medical Group Southeast Center in Chicago, Illinois. She currently works in a patient-centered medical home to provide comprehensive medication management for a variety of internal medicine disease states, including but not limited to, heart failure, diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, COPD, and asthma.
Kellye Eagan is a PGY-2 ambulatory care resident at Midwestern University and practices comprehensive medication management at Advocate Southeast Clinic in Chicago, IL managing diabetes, hypertension, heart failure, hyperlipidemia, asthma/COPD, and gout. Graduate from Midwestern University Chicago in 2020 and former PGY-1 pharmacy residency at John H. Stroger Jr., Hospital of Cook County.
Matthew Buchfellner is in his last year of pharmacy school at the University of Findlay College of Pharmacy in Ohio. He is completing an elective rotation in association management with Dr. Sophia Chhay, Assistant Director of the ASHP Innovation Center. Matthew’s volunteer experience includes President of his SSHP and PSLC (Pharmacy Student Leadership Council). He has served as a pharmacy intern with the local hospital Blanchard Valley Health System in Findlay for the past three years. After graduation, Matthew plans to pursue post-graduate residency training and to work as a clinical pharmacy specialist within a hospital.
