ISMP Targeted Medication Safety Best Practices for Hospitals #9 – Antidotes, reversal agents, and rescue agents

This podcast will review the ISMP targeted medication safety best practices for hospitals #9 to ensure all appropriate antidotes, reversal agents, and rescue agents are readily available, have standardized protocols and/or coupled order sets, and have directions for use/administration. Speakers will discuss organizational resources to consider for implementation and will share lessons learned from collaborating on learner assignments regarding this best practice.

SPEAKERS

Anthony JaworskiAnthony Jaworski is the Clinical Program Manager for the Poison Control Center located at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Part of is work entails engaging learners in opportunities that impact public safety related to medication-use as well as providing guidance to local hospitals regarding access to antidotes. He is a 2013 graduate of Wayne State University and completed his PGY-1 acute care and PGY-2 critical care residencies at Henry Ford Hospital and West Virginia University Medicine, respectively.

Anna BieniekAnna Bieniek is the Medication Safety and Quality Assurance Pharmacist at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Dr. Bieniek received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Midwestern University Chicago College of Pharmacy. She completed a PGY-1/PGY-2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration Residency at Mission Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina and earned her master’s degree from the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy. She is a member of the ASHP Section Advisory Group on Medication Safety.
