This episode provides a review of ISMP Best Practice #17 recommendations for safeguards against errors with oxytocin use. Speakers will discuss how to understand the risks involved in oxytocin utilization with antepartum and postpartum management and will describe considerations for implementing such safeguards.

Michele Holley, PharmD, MS, is a pharmacist and Medication Safety Officer for Mount Carmel Health System in Columbus, Ohio where she reviews best practices to improve the safety and quality of medication use within the health system. She has supported the Mount Carmel Colleague Vaccination Clinics and reviewed vaccines, monoclonal antibodies, and other therapeutic treatment options for safe patient use. She graduated from Ohio Northern University with a PharmD and The Ohio State University with a Master’s in Health System Pharmacy Administration.
Natalie Nguyen, PharmD, MSHA, is the Medication Safety Pharmacy Manager at VCU Health. Nguyen received her PharmD from the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Pharmacy in Richmond, VA. She completed a PGY1/PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership Residency at VCU Health, and MS in Health Administration at VCU Health and the VCU College of Health Professions. Contributions with ASHP includes serving in the SICP Advisory Group on Medication Safety and House of Delegates.
