Today we talk with Susan Goodin, Head of Pharmacy Practice, Patient and Investigator Engagement, and the Innovation Strategy Lead in Biotherapeutics Development for Janssen Research and Development. Our focus is to talk about her experiences during her 25-year career while at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey in managing drug shortages and discussing ethical considerations in prioritizing care and lessons learned from the oncology perspective.

Susan Goodin, Pharm.D., FASHP, FCCP, BCOP, is the Head of Pharmacy Practice, Patient and Investigator Engagement, and the Innovation Strategy Lead in Biotherapeutics Development for Janssen Research and Development. Prior to joining Janssen in 2018, she was a Professor of Medicine and Pharmacy at the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and the Executive Officer for the Big Ten Cancer Research Consortium. She practiced for 25 years as a clinical pharmacist at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, for which she was a founding member. She played a key leadership role in the organizational design and establishment of the clinical practice and clinical research infrastructure at the cancer center. As an active researcher and clinician, she published more than 75 peer-reviewed articles on the treatment and prevention of cancer demonstrating her leadership in practice and patient care. Susan earned a B.S. and Pharm.D. degree from the University of Kentucky. After completing a residency in Pharmacy Practice and Oncology at the University of Kentucky, she joined the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (Rutgers) where she served in several leadership roles within the cancer center, the university, and national pharmacy organizations. She has received numerous pharmacy awards and honors recognizing her contributions to the healthcare and patients. Susan is a Board-Certified Oncology Pharmacist and a Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy and the American Society of Health System Pharmacists.
Vicki Basalyga, Pharm.D., BCPS, BCPPS, is the Director for the Section of Clinical Specialists and Scientists. In this role Vicki serves as an information resource and provides guidance to ASHP members regarding science and scientific developments affecting pharmacy practice in health systems. She serves as secretary to the Section executive committee and coordinates activities to accomplish the objectives established by the Section. Additionally, Vicki has assumed the position of Council Secretary for the ASHP's Council on Therapeutics.
Vicki received her Doctor of Pharmacy from Duquesne University and completed an ASHP accredited PGY1 at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC. Vicki is also a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist and a Board Certified Pediatric Pharmacotherapy Specialist.
Prior to her current position at ASHP, Vicki practiced as critical care pharmacist in both the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC. Other activities Vicki performed included drafting policies and procedures, co-chairing the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program, creating and drafting order sets for CPOE conversion and precepting residents and students.
