Our ASHP members are in various stages of preparing for, responding to, and recovering from the COVID-19 global pandemic. This is an extremely difficult time and as we – pharmacists, pharmacy residents, students pharmacists, and pharmacy technicians - continue to care for our patients, it is even more imperative to step-up our well-being for ourselves and the healthcare workforce community. Today, we chat with Anne Nguyen on lessons learned and advice to share related to workforce well-being.

Dr. Anne Nguyen is a native Houstonian and a proud Austinite. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Nguyen completed a combined PGY1/PGY2 Health System Pharmacy Administration residency program at Michael E Debakey VA Medical Center and obtained a Master of Science degree in Pharmacy Administration from the University of Houston College of Pharmacy. Upon residency completion, Dr. Nguyen practiced as a clinical pharmacy specialist in transitions of care and internal medicine at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. She is currently a pharmacy manager at Houston Methodist West where her professional interests include leadership development, transition of care initiatives, and patient safety. She enjoys interviewing successful leaders and blogging, traveling, hiking, and spending time with her loved ones.
Vicki Basalyga, Pharm.D., BCPS, BCPPS, is the Director for the Section of Clinical Specialists and Scientists. In this role Vicki serves as an information resource and provides guidance to ASHP members regarding science and scientific developments affecting pharmacy practice in health systems. She serves as secretary to the Section executive committee and coordinates activities to accomplish the objectives established by the Section. Additionally, Vicki has assumed the position of Council Secretary for the ASHP's Council on Therapeutics.
Vicki received her Doctor of Pharmacy from Duquesne University and completed an ASHP accredited PGY1 at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC. Vicki is also a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist and a Board Certified Pediatric Pharmacotherapy Specialist.
Prior to her current position at ASHP, Vicki practiced as critical care pharmacist in both the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC. Other activities Vicki performed included drafting policies and procedures, co-chairing the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program, creating and drafting order sets for CPOE conversion and precepting residents and students.
