Glen J. Gard is director of sterile compounding compliance at Option Care Health in Chicago. A nationally recognized expert in sterile compounding, Gard is also a champion for advancing pharmacy technician roles.
In his role at Option Care Health, Gard developed training programs for sterile compounding and cleanroom management (both in written and video formats) and authored the company’s compounding and clean room oversight policies and procedures.
Gard is also responsible for innovative and progressive technician development programs that have reimagined the role of pharmacy technicians at his organization. The development program includes guidance for technicians interested in gaining certification, participating in organization-wide committees, and taking on leadership positions. Gard acts as a mentor to his technician colleagues and regularly serves as the voice of technicians to the organization’s leadership to ensure day-to-day problems are identified, acknowledged, and solved efficiently and effectively.
Before joining Option Care Health, he held several pharmacy technician roles at Centegra Health System in Crystal Lake, Ill., and Amita Health in Elk Grove, Village, Ill.
An active member of the ASHP Pharmacy Technician Forum, Gard served on the Forum’s inaugural executive committee and is a past chair and vice chair. His service to the profession also includes terms on the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Sterile Compounding Exam Development Committee, the PTCB Hazardous Drug Management Task Force, and the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam Standard Setting Committee. He was the only pharmacy technician member of the National Home Infusion Association Sterile Compounding Education Committee. He is a member of the board of directors of LyceumCE.
Gard is a frequent presenter on advanced roles for pharmacy technicians.
