Section Advisory Groups

ASHP's Section of Specialty Pharmacy Practitioners has four Section Advisory Groups (SAG). These advisory groups help you engage with ASHP and colleagues who share the same interests as you.

SAG on Accreditation and Compliance

Charges

  • Advise health system specialty pharmacies on accreditation, quality and compliance requirements and opportunities.
  • Identify and develop resources to support excellence in accreditation, quality improvement and regulatory compliance and evolving best practices.
  • Develop mechanisms and resources to support the monitoring and assessment of laws and compliance standards relevant to the practice of specialty pharmacy.  
  • Develop and support advocacy for health system specialty pharmacy pertaining to accreditation, quality, and compliance organizations including advising on reporting requirements and benchmarking opportunities and consistency among specialty pharmacies.

SAG on Business Development

Charges

  • Advise on vision and strategy for the long term success and sustainability of health system specialty pharmacy. 
  • Identify and develop resources to effectively manage economic and financial specialty pharmacy performance, including strategies to access payer network and limited distribution/ restricted access medications. 
  • Identify and develop resources to assist members in their ability to anticipate and evaluate growth opportunities, promote value, respond to industry changes, and support strategic planning.
  • Identify and develop resources and support advocacy that improves opportunities for the health system specialty pharmacy business model and reimbursement for clinical care provided to patients.

SAG on Operational and Workforce Development

Charges

  • Identify and develop resources to support the current and future of health-system specialty pharmacy workforce education, training and competencies, career ladders and professional development, and credential needs to support optimal specialty patient care and practice model advancements.
  • Identify and implement ways to increase recruitment of a diverse and inclusive HSSP workforce, and support retention of the HSSP workforce with a focus on resilience, well-being and career development.
  • Identify and develop resources to assist members to build an innovative health system specialty pharmacy practice, which includes operational workflows and staffing models related to: intake, prior authorizations, clinical review, medication access programs, dispensing, shipping, and other key operational tasks.
  • Develop and advocate for advanced roles for pharmacy technicians that promote and expand their ability to practice at the top of their license within health system specialty pharmacy teams.

Charges

  • Advise and affect positive change on quality and outcome measures affecting the specialty medication use process.
  • Develop a research agenda that identifies gaps and associated metrics to support the unique value of health system specialty pharmacy services.
  • Identify and develop resources that assist members to excel in evolving clinical, quality, economic, and humanistic outcomes, including patient & provider satisfaction reporting initiatives.
  • Identify and develop resources and support advocacy to assist members in changes to standards affecting the medication use process.
