Intensive care unit (ICU) delirium is a common and severe manifestation of critical illness. It can occur in up to 80% of mechanically ventilated ICU patients and leads to longer lengths of stay and increases the risk of mortality. The etiology of ICU delirium is not well-elucidated, making pharmacological treatments difficult to target. This podcast will discuss the risk factors, definitions, and treatment of ICU delirium.

Dr. Nicholas Quinn is a Clinical Pharmacy Manager for Critical Care at the Moses Division of Montefiore Medical Center. He graduated pharmacy school at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts prior to pursuing pharmacy residency. Nicholas completed his PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina prior to pursuing a PGY2 in critical care at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH.
As an academic intensivist, Dr. Tina Chen is interested in integrating evidence-based practice care in the ICU. After completing her PCCM training at Columbia University Medical Center, NY, she joined the Division of Critical Care Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, serving one of the most indigent populations in New York City. She is now the director of the medical ICU where she enjoys teaching and practicing yoga with her residents at morning rounds.
Harshal Shukla is a Clinical Pharmacy Manager for Surgical Services and Anesthesiology at the Montefiore Medical Center located in the Bronx, NY. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Arnold and Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy at Long Island University. Dr. Shukla completed his PGY1 residency at Montefiore Medical Center. He successfully completed the ASHP Pharmacy Leadership Academy in 2020. Dr. Shukla currently serves as the President of the New York City Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
