While the utilization of topical hemostatic agents in the emergency department (ED) is dwarfed by its use in OR, ED pharmacists should have a basic understanding of these agents based on the critically ill and surgical patients that can reside in the ED. This podcast will evaluate the available topical hemostatic agents and their place in practice, specifically from the emergency department perspective.
SPEAKERS
Joseph Halfpap, PharmD, BCPS, received his Doctor of Pharmacy from the University Of Wisconsin School Of Pharmacy in 2005. He then completed a PGY-1 residency at Meriter Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. He is the current emergency medicine pharmacist PGY2 program director at UW Health and has over 15 year of clinical experience as an emergency medicine pharmacist. He has served on the ASHP Advisory Group on Emergency Medicine, given numerous presentations and authored several publications.
Christian Kroll, PharmD, is an ED and ICU pharmacist at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, IA. He earned his PharmD Degree from South Dakota State University and completed both his PGY1 & PGY2 Residency at UW Health in Madison, WI. His interests within emergency medicine include managing the transition of care for critically ill patients, neurology, and academia. In his free time, Dr. Kroll enjoys running, panfishing, and sampling local breweries.
