Abuse of and addiction to opioid medications continues to be a growing issue worldwide with opioid abuse often beginning with prescribed products in medical care.  Multimodal pain management uses alternatives to opioids to prevent the initial exposure that may lead to addiction and abuse. This podcast is focused on describing the management of acute and chronic pain conditions with opioid sparing modalities and analgesic optimization.

SPEAKERS

Jenny KoehlJenny Koehl, PharmD, BCPS is an emergency medicine clinical pharmacist and coordinator of the postgraduate year 2 Emergency Medicine Pharmacy Residency at Massachusetts General Hospital. After earning her PharmD degree at UCSF (2015), she returned to Wisconsin to complete her PGY-1 and PGY-2 Emergency Medicine pharmacy residencies (2015-2017) at the University of Wisconsin Health. Following residency, she moved to Boston to join the incredible EM team at MGH. Her passions include advancing pharmacy resident education and research training, mentorship, national committee involvement, and global health. Her clinical practice interests include neurology and cardiology.

Norman PillsburyDr. Norman Pillsbury, PharmD, BCPS, received his Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from the University of Florida in 2000. He has been a clinical hospital pharmacist, a hospice pharmacist, a consultant pharmacist, a director of pharmacy, and a system director of pharmacy. In addition, he was a professor of Pharmacology at South College in Asheville, North Carolina for two years, and is currently an adjunct professor at the University of Florida College of Pharmacy. His practice interests include Critical Care, Palliative Care, Pain Management, and Pharmacy Administration. He is a member of ASHP, APhA, and the Florida Pharmacy Association. He has been with HCA since March of 2015 and is currently a Clinical Pharmacist at HCA Florida Ocala Hospital.

Megan MusselmanMegan Musselman, PharmD, MS, BCPS, BCCCP, is an emergency medicine clinical pharmacist and postgraduate year 2 emergency medicine residency program director at North Kansas City Hospital. She received her PharmD from Creighton University and went on to complete her PGY1 at the University of Illinois Medical Center at Chicago and her PGY2 emergency medicine residency at the Detroit Receiving Hospital. Her practice interests are toxicology, neurotrauma critical care, and clinical leadership.
