The Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) has recently published a position paper on recommended changes to the SEP-1 sepsis early management bundle. The panel discusses IDSA’s recommendations for broad-spectrum antibiotic administration and their potential impact on practice.

Lance Ray is the Clinical Specialist in Emergency Medicine and PGY2 Residency Program Director at Denver Health. He is affiliate faculty with the Global Emergency Care Initiative and lecturer in the School of Pharmacy at the University of Colorado. He has extensive experience in the Emergency Department with previous practice at Texas Health Resources followed by University of Colorado Hospital. His research and clinical interests focus on acute management of arrhythmia and heart failure in the emergency setting. Lance earned his PharmD from the University of Texas College of Pharmacy. He is a member of the ASHP Section Advisory Group for Emergency Medicine, is recipient of several statewide pharmacy teaching awards and has held leadership positions with ASHP and the Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
Bhavik Shah earned his doctorate of pharmacy from Rutgers University, and completed post-graduate training in pharmacy practice and infectious diseases at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. He is an associate professor at the Jefferson College of Pharmacy and co-director of the Pharmacology thread in the JeffMD curriculum at SIdney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. He is an active member of ASHP and ACCP. Within ASHP, he has served as vice-chair and is currently the chair of the Year-Round Educational Steering Committee for 2020-2021.
Kellie J. Goodlet, PharmD, BCPS, BCIDP is an Assistant Professor at Midwestern University College of Pharmacy and a Faculty Clinical Pharmacist at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ. She completed her Doctor of Pharmacy at the University of Arizona and PGY1+PGY2 Infectious Diseases Residency at Hartford Hospital. Her areas of interest include antimicrobial stewardship, developing resident research skills, and the management of drug resistance and opportunistic infection in immunosuppressed patient populations.
Mark Skildum graduated from the University Of Minnesota College Of Pharmacy and completed a PGY-1 Residency and a PGY2 HSPA Residency at United Hospital in Saint Paul, MN. He is a graduate of the ASHP Foundation Pharmacy Leadership Academy and is board certified in pharmacotherapy. He is a clinical pharmacy manager at United Hospital for the cardiology, neurology, critical care and emergency medicine teams. Mark serves on the ASHP Section Advisory Group for Emergency Medicine. He has also served on multiple committees and roles in the Minnesota Society of Health System Pharmacists.
