In celebration of Pride Month in June, we are sharing the voices of our AJHP SGM Theme Issue authors and their perspectives and experiences. In this episode, Sally Arif and Paul O’Donnell discuss providing culturally competent, affirming, and inclusive care for SGM individuals.
Paul O’Donnell, PharmD, BCCCP, FCCM (he/him) practiced for 15 years as a critical care pharmacist at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois prior to transitioning to his current role as a scientific director focused on medical communications at RazorFish Health. During that time, he was also faculty at Midwestern University’s College of Pharmacy. He received his Doctorate of Pharmacy from the University of Colorado and completed 2 years of residency at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
Sally Arif, PharmD, BCCP (she/her/hers) a tenured pharmacy professor at Midwestern University and a cardiology clinical pharmacist at Rush University Medical Center. With nearly 20 years in healthcare, Dr. Arif is a champion for inclusive healthcare education and speaks nationally and internationally on strategies to provide culturally sensitive care. Dr. Arif is also the founder and CEO of the Equity-Minded Collective and affiliated faculty with the Center for Community Health Equity where she facilitates diversity, equity, and inclusion-based workshops.
Daniel J. Cobaugh, Pharm.D. FAACT, DABAT is the senior vice president of professional development and publishing at ASHP and the editor-in-chief of AJHP. He has served on the ASHP staff since 2002. He received his B.S. in Pharmacy from the University of Pittsburgh and his Doctor of Pharmacy from Duquesne University. Cobaugh completed an ASHP-accredited residency in hospital pharmacy at Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh and a clinical toxicology fellowship at the Pittsburgh Poison Center. He practiced as pharmacist-clinical toxicologist and held faculty appointments at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and the University of Rochester Medical Center.
