Listeners will learn about SOPIT’s pharmacy informaticist women leaders who are recipients of the Distinguished Service Award for service to the Section and ASHP as demonstrated by sustained contributions and activities that support ASHP's mission and vision and advance the profession. Discussion will involve their career paths, current or past activities they most enjoyed, and where they envision informatics in the future.
SPEAKERS
Sylvia Belford, PharmD, MS, CPHIMS, FASHP is Administrator of Clinical Systems Education at Mayo Clinic. She completed PharmD and MS degrees at University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy and HSPA residency at UW Hospital and Clinics. She served on SOPIT’s Executive Committee twice and received the DSA in 2020. Previous work experience includes EHR implementation director at Mayo Clinic, IT Clinical Informatics Director at Sanford Health, and Pharmacy Manager at UW Hospital & Clinics.
Barbara L. Giacomelli, PharmD, MBA, FASHP is VP Advisory McKesson Health Systems. Dr. Giacomelli has held various pharmacy and healthcare leadership positions in health systems over the past 30-years, leading projects to advance pharmacy practice related to automation, technology, supply chain management, retail, and specialty pharmacy. A Fellow of ASHP and Past Chair SOPIT, she received the Distinguished Service Award in 2019.
Anna M Dreger, RPh, BSPharm is a Clinical Application Pharmacist Specialist at M Health Fairview in the Twin Cities, Minnesota. Anna served as Chair and Vice Chair for the Section Advisory Group (SAG) for Professional Development within the Section of Pharmacy Informatics and Technology. Anna completed her BSPharm at the University of Wisconsin – Madison and a PGY1 residency at Mayo Clinic Hospital, Saint Marys Campus, Rochester, MN.
Amey C. Hugg, B.S. Pharm., CPHIMS, FKSHP is Director of the ASHP Section of Pharmacy Informatics and Technology. Her responsibilities include acting as ASHP staff liaison and secretary for the SOPIT Executive Committee and coordinating activities to accomplish Section goals and objectives. She acts as an ASHP information resource and provides informatics guidance to members in various healthcare environments.
Amey is a visible leader in national pharmacy and informatics organizations. Amey represents ASHP on the Pharmacy Health Information Technology Collaborative’s Executive Committee, Collaborative Council, Steering Committee and several Workgroups. She is an active member of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society. Amey was appointed as member of the Partnership for Health IT Patient Safety (ECRI) and the Pharmacy Quality Alliance’s Data Interoperability Advisory Group.
She was previously elected to the Kentucky Society of Health-System Pharmacists’ Board of Directors and served in multiple capacities for many years, including President of the association. Most recently, she was awarded Fellow status (FKSHP).
Prior to her ASHP position, Amey was Manager of Pharmacy Informatics and Organizational Leader for Physician Adoption and Order Sets at the University of Louisville Hospital, with focus on clinical decision support and interoperability. She was founder and Director of their PGY2 Pharmacy Informatics Residency Program. In addition to health systems, her experience includes corporate level pharmacy management, clinical pharmacy, and managed care.
Amey, a fourth generation pharmacist, received her pharmacy degree from the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy and is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS).
