Elyse MacDonald reviews the important statistical consideration for evaluating the incredible amount of literature released and what descriptors are important for the wide variety of COVID-19 tests on the marketplace.

Elyse MacDonald, PharmD, MS, BCPS is the pharmacy manager for the Investigational Drug Service at the University of Utah Health. Prior to this position, she was a drug information specialist with the University of Utah Drug Information Service. Dr. MacDonald earned a BS in Biochemistry from Cedar Crest College located in Allentown, PA and a MS in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from Lehigh University located in Bethlehem, PA. She received her PharmD from Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Health Professions. She completed her Pharmacy Practice Residency at the Philadelphia VA Medical Center and her Drug Information specialty residency at University of Utah Health. Prior to pharmacy school, Dr. MacDonald worked in the pharmaceutical industry as an analytical chemist and then as a project leader in clinical supplies. Dr. MacDonald has presented the research design and statistics module for the ASHP/ACCP Oncology Pharmacy Review and Recertification Course since 2014. Dr. MacDonald was appointed as a member of the ASHP Commission on Affiliate Relations from 2017-2020. Previously, she was a member of ASHP SCSS Section Advisory Group on Emerging Sciences. She also served as a network facilitator for Pharmacoeconomics and Drug Policy Development. She is also a past-president for the Utah Society of Health-System Pharmacists. She served as an Utah delegate in 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 for the ASHP House of Delegates.
Vicki Basalyga, Pharm.D., BCPS, BCPPS, is the Director for the Section of Clinical Specialists and Scientists. In this role Vicki serves as an information resource and provides guidance to ASHP members regarding science and scientific developments affecting pharmacy practice in health systems. She serves as secretary to the Section executive committee and coordinates activities to accomplish the objectives established by the Section. Additionally, Vicki has assumed the position of Council Secretary for the ASHP's Council on Therapeutics.
Vicki received her Doctor of Pharmacy from Duquesne University and completed an ASHP accredited PGY1 at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC. Vicki is also a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist and a Board Certified Pediatric Pharmacotherapy Specialist.
Prior to her current position at ASHP, Vicki practiced as critical care pharmacist in both the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC. Other activities Vicki performed included drafting policies and procedures, co-chairing the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program, creating and drafting order sets for CPOE conversion and precepting residents and students.
