Reasons for selecting pharmacy:
I am a proud first-generation advocate who is the first in my family to graduate high school and pursue a medical degree. Since I was young, I have always had a passion for advocating and educating others, making me more passionate about pursuing a career in medical education. Out of the many medical professions, I connected most with the world of pharmacy because of the ongoing advocacy work, the breadth of teaching opportunities present, and the scope of practice areas aligned with my interests. I am excited to continue learning and fulfilling my passions for science, human connection, and service through interprofessional collaboration and patient-centered care as a pharmacist, serving as a trusted and reputable resource for my patients and colleagues.
Professional Interests:
- Health-System Pharmacy Administration & Leadership
- Pharmacy Education & Academia
Interest in the PSF Executive Committee:
Early in my first year, I became involved with the SSHP chapter at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine School of Pharmacy. I served as the President-Elect and then President of the SSHP chapter. In these roles, I was fortunate to have multiple opportunities to network and collaborate with the ASHP state affiliate, the Georgia Society of Health-System Pharmacists, and pharmacists from across Georgia in creating a ‘Dinner with a Pharmacist’ networking night for pharmacy students, which we have been able to host for two years now. After serving in this role, I realized I wanted to be actively involved nationally. Since my first year, I have had the opportunity to serve the Pharmacy Student Forum annually and proudly serve as this year’s PSF Executive Committee Chair! These are rare opportunities to become more actively involved with pharmacy students nationwide and continue to advocate and support the growth of health system pharmacy practice!
How being a member of ASHP has assisted in my personal and professional development:
Since joining ASHP, I received many resources and participated in many unique opportunities to grow my personal and professional skills. I have strengthened my project management and communication skills and afforded the time to learn from many pharmacy leaders and mentors within my State Affiliate. The skills and knowledge I have gained in the classroom translate to advocacy work that continues to push me as a future pharmacy leader.
Goals for the year as a PSFEC Member:
- Develop resources and create tools to enhance students’ professional development and strengthen professional identity.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive environment for student pharmacists nationwide to learn from each other and other practitioners and establish networking opportunities.
- Empower student pharmacists to become involved with ASHP on the local, state, and national levels and increase awareness of post-graduation career options and opportunities.
Fun Fact:
I am proud of my Lebanese heritage and love to share the culture and history of Lebanon with others, including being a self-taught Arabic drummer since 6!
