May 2019
Hi Everyone,
As I write this final Chair's message, it's hard to believe that a year has gone by so fast. I really want to thank everyone for your continued dedication to our SOPIT and commitment to taking the initiative to make a difference in our profession as we navigate technology and innovation in Pharmacy.
Serving as the Chair of our Section has been a huge learning experience for me. I've learned so much from all of your contributions of those that participated in the Section Advisory Groups and Educational Steering this year and our leaders at ASHP. Without everyone's help, we would not be able to accomplish nearly so much.
In April, I had the opportunity to participate in the Practice Advancement Initiative (PAI) Strategic Planning Retreat in Bethesda to look towards the future and the direction of HealthCare with discussion on the influence of artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and machine learning. The retreat was quite inspiring to hear different perspectives on HealthCare and technology. Susan Dentzer, CEO of network for Excellence in Health Innovation, shared her stories with HealthCare without Wall and the importance of technology in moving forward. Tina Moen, from IBM Watson Health, spoke on AI and the Future of Healthcare where one key of advice was to get involved in data and the AI strategy. And, Dennis Wagner, from CMS, inspired all of us with his stories and the need to committing to work on a bold aim - personal and professional.
Last week, the House of Delegates held Regional Delegate Conferences (RDCs) around the country reviewing policies. I had the opportunity to attend and participate in the Arizona RDC. I encourage anyone who wants to learn all facets of our profession to get involved. It is truly a learning experience and something that will be important for the SOPIT as HealthCare takes on more technology.
