February 2025
Dear Colleagues,
Many of us are not fortunate to live in areas with mild year-round temperatures, but the frigid temperatures and snow in some parts of the country have not slowed the spirits or progress of our section advisory groups from making phenomenal progress on their projects this year. At my last count, we have seven webinars, five podcasts, four blog posts and many other projects that are moving closer to completion through some fantastic efforts being put forth by our SAG workgroups and the section members that lead them. Not only is the quantity impressive but looking at the expertise being demonstrated in the content of these projects there are some very valuable resources being created to share with our members. Kudos to the SAG workgroups!
This is also the perfect time to think about the ASHP Pharmacy Futures meeting, June 7-11 in Charlotte, North Carolina. ASHP meetings are the perfect place to brush up on knowledge and skills, meet or reconnect with colleagues, and relax away from the day-to-day important work we all do.
This year’s Pharmacy Futures features a summit on advanced therapeutics. These complex therapies include a lot of special considerations and requirements that are not present with typical medications. Managing these therapies is still a rapidly evolving process. However, I have a feeling that like most complex processes in healthcare, technology will play a key role in the management of advanced therapeutics from procurement to storage, to administration and monitoring. The summit would be a solid start to get your fundamental understanding of the unique challenges these therapies create to ensure you will be effective at supporting the processes from a technology perspective when the time comes (if it hasn’t already!). If you’re going to be at Pharmacy Futures, keep an eye out for more details regarding a SOPIT informal social hour in the evening on June 7 and an informatics networking session in the afternoon on June 8 – it would be great to connect in Charlotte!
Thanks again for your support of our section and for the work you do every day, and as always feel free to reach out to me with any questions you have regarding the work of SOPIT.
