Initial Involvement in ASHP

I have been a member of ASHP since 1992 and attended many clinical meetings. Currently, I am a member of the Section of Specialty Pharmacy Practitioners Advisory Group on Business Development. In 2018, I shared my experiences through a letter published in ASHP’s Letters from Women in Pharmacy: Stories on Integrating Life and Career.

Why did you become involved in ASHP?

I chose to become involved in ASHP because of the vast array of opportunities to network with my pharmacy specialty as well as support residency training, learn from others in the field and to promote women in the profession.

Advice for Someone New to Specialty Area

My best advice for colleagues new to the area of specialty pharmacy is to get involved. The specialty pharmacy network is supportive and helpful. We are all quickly adapting to the changing climate of practice and sincerely want to help others be successful. Ask questions, attend national organization meetings and learn!

How would you explain the value of ASHP to a friend or colleague?

Being a member of ASHP is an active way of moving the profession forward and embracing multiple forms of pharmacy practice. The opportunities for involvement are endless and the dedication of the leadership is unmatched.

What is the value of ASHP for the profession?

The value of ASHP is two-fold. First, what you support the organization to do on behalf of the profession and second, what you take away from the organization. One is not mutually exclusive of the other. It is our responsibility as a healthcare professional to be part of a larger group focused on supporting the pharmacy profession regardless of the setting.
