JoAnn Stubbings
2021 Distinguished Service Award Winner
JoAnn Stubbings is Clinical Associate Professor Emerita in the Department of Pharmacy Practice at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Pharmacy in Chicago, IL. Prior to this position, she served as Associate Director, Specialty Pharmacy Services, at the University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences System, and Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice. Ms. Stubbings earned her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the Ohio State University College of Pharmacy and her Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy.
Ms. Stubbings has served ASHP and her profession in multiple capacities over the years. She was the appointed as Chair of the inaugural ASHP Section of Specialty Pharmacy Practitioners from 2018-2020, Chair of the Section’s 2021 Committee on Nominations, and currently serves on the Section’s Educational Steering Committee. She represented the Section of Specialty Pharmacy Practitioners at ASHP’s House of Delegates in 2019 and 2020, the 2021 Specialty Pharmacy Summit, the 2030 Practice Advancement Initiative Advisory Panel, and the 2019 Strategic Planning Panel. She has been member of the Forecast Survey Panel from 2015 to present, reviewer of abstracts and manuscripts, and is a frequent presenter and moderator at ASHP meetings. She served on the Government Affairs Committee of the Illinois Council of Health-System Pharmacists and as an Advocacy Key Contact and Media Advisor for the American Pharmacists Association.
Ms. Stubbings has experience in the pharmaceutical industry, consulting, academia, ambulatory care pharmacy, and specialty pharmacy. Her research and professional interests are in the areas of pharmaceutical policy, specialty pharmacy models of care, payment for pharmacy services, business planning, the 340B Drug Pricing Program, REMS, ambulatory care pharmacy, and health insurance especially Medicare Part D and the Affordable Care Act. She publishes and speaks frequently on these topics.
Ms. Stubbings is co-author of the book “How to Develop a Business Plan for Pharmacy Services.” Her passion is teaching, training, and mentoring future pharmacists, especially future specialty pharmacy practitioners. Ms. Stubbings was lead author of the publication “ASHP National Survey of Health-System Specialty Pharmacy Practice-2020” and co-author of the publication “National Trends in Prescription Drug Expenditures and Projections” from 2016-2020.
