Cynthia Williams
Cynthia (Cindy) Williams is the Vice President/Chief Pharmacy Officer for Riverside Health System in Newport News, Virginia, where she oversees all aspects of medication use for 5 acute care facilities, a behavioral health facility, a large ambulatory infusion service line, a 500+ member medical group, and a post-acute care division that includes rehabilitation, assisted living, long term care, hospice and home health. During her tenure at Riverside, she has been responsible for establishment of an ASHP residency program, expansion of clinical services, development of advanced roles for pharmacy technicians, implementation of a 340B program, growth of ambulatory infusion services, initiation of an organization directed pharmacy benefit management plan and implementation of retail and specialty pharmacy services. She holds adjunct faculty positions with Virginia Commonwealth University School of Pharmacy and Hampton University School of Pharmacy.
Williams received her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. She completed the Executive Management Program for Pharmacy Leaders at the Wharton School and The Pharmacy Leadership Institute at Boston University, and certification courses in Diabetes Management and Medication Therapy Management.
As a member of ASHP for more than 20 years, Williams has served on multiple ASHP Section Advisory Groups, including Management of the Pharmacy Enterprise, Patient Care Quality, Quality and Compliance, and Clinical Applications. She currently serves as a member of the SAG on Multi-Hospital Pharmacy Executives, where she has held the role of Chair. She has also served on the Section of Pharmacy Informatics and Technology Advisory Group on Clinical Applications. She has also served on the ASHP Council on Pharmacy Management and the Advisory Committee for the ASHP Pharmacy Forecast. Williams is currently President for the Virginia Society of Health System Pharmacists (VSHP). She previously held positions as VSHP Board Member-at-Large and delegate to the ASHP House of Delegates. In 2015, she was awarded the VSHP R.D. Anderson Distinguished Leadership Award for excellence in health-system pharmacy practice leadership. She has also held region officer positions with Virginia Pharmacists Association and served at the national level with The National Home Infusion Association. In addition to these roles, she has contributed to the advancement of the profession through publications, speaking at the local, state and national level, and through ongoing committee and advisory group participation with multiple organizations.
