Tyler Tomasek
His Story
Tyler Tomasek obtained his PharmD degree from the University of Toledo, and Masters in Health-System Pharmacy Administration from the Northeast Ohio Medical University. He completed his PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at Cleveland Clinic South Pointe Hospital.
Tyler previously worked as the pharmacy manager at Cleveland Clinic South Pointe Hospital. In his current role, he supports the Cleveland Clinic as the manager of the Pharmacy Automation and Operations Support team. This group supports operational technology systems, including automated dispensing cabinet systems, inventory management systems, electronic medical record pharmacy workflows, and sterile compounding workflow systems.

Located in Cleveland, Ohio, Cleveland Clinic is a nonprofit, multi-specialty academic medical center that integrates clinical and hospital care with research and education.
Today, with nearly 1,300 beds on Cleveland Clinic main campus and 5,996 beds system-wide, we provide safer care for more people in more places than ever before.
Significant Projects
Throughout the past year, Tyler has worked with other pharmacy leaders to support operational and informatics patient care needs related to the pandemic, including activation of surge units and hospitals. During this time, Tyler has also facilitated numerous projects to standardize automated dispensing cabinet settings and workflows for the Cleveland Clinic enterprise.

Advice for Someone New to Your Specialty Area
If an opportunity arises to volunteer for a project or task group that is not directly related to your current pharmacy role, consider joining as a contributor. This will help you build your relationships with those working in different practices, and expose you to topics you may not see on a daily basis.

The ability to develop a professional network of mentors and peers to facilitate your personal and professional growth.
What is the value of ASHP for the profession?
ASHP advances the professional practice of pharmacists in hospitals and health systems by supporting the continued development of the roles undertaken by both pharmacists and technicians role.
