David Berkowitz
His Story
Dr. Berkowitz received his Pharm.D. from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and completed a fellowship in User Centered Design at Partners Connected Health, Boston, Massachusetts. Berkowitz is an innovative pharmacy leader, intrapreneur and entrepreneur who is committed to helping those at the frontlines in healthcare spend their time wisely, efficiently, and on interventions that matter. He is passionate about maximizing finite resources; improving the clinician-patient relationship by leveraging tools that improve healthcare delivery; nudging patients to make healthy choices; implementing predictive models to improve medication safety; and enabling data-driven driven healthcare through quantitative pharmacology, business intelligence and machine learning.
Overview of Facility/Health System
At Omnicell, Dr. Berkowitz is a Field Consultant for Omnicell One, a new technology-enabled service designed to consolidate data across the automation layer, beginning with XT Automated Dispensing Systems. It creates greater insight into an organization’s medication and clinical needs, leveraging predictive and prescriptive analytics to recommend and deliver actionable workflow improvements. For example, Omnicell One offers inventory management and diversion prevention analytic dashboards coupled with workflow optimization insights and analytics as a service to help make data more useful for customers.
Significant Projects
Dr. Berkowitz is also the Director of the Omnicell Fellowship in Data Analytics and the Wake Forest Baptist Health Fellowship in Automation Research. The fellowships support the pharmacy industry's autonomous pharmacy vision. The fellowship in pharmacy data analytics builds out new analytics solutions. The automation research fellowship pilots, tests and conducts research on any new solutions, as well as conducts research on where technology can be inserted into the medication use process in order to make it safer or more automated.

ASHP helps provide a valuable roadmap for pharmacy advancement as well as critical advocacy in important areas such as medication shortages and medication quality.
