Facility
The University of Kansas Health System St. Francis Campus is a community hospital located in Topeka, the capital city of Kansas. The hospital is co-managed through a partnership between Ardent Health Services and The University of Kansas Health System. The hospital has an average census of 120.
The hospital is proud to be a part of a long legacy of high-quality, compassionate care, dating back to 1909 as the mission of a group of Catholic nuns who rose up to meet the needs of their community.
Recent Significant Projects
I utilized my experience as an inaugural pharmacy resident to help build a brand new PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at my institution. I assisted with the onboarding process and helped to standardize training new pharmacy employees. Most recently, I was in charge of implementing vancomycin dosing using area under the curve protocol. I am also mentoring the pharmacy resident to develop a new protocol for enoxaparin in the obese patient population.
Initial Involvement in ASHP
I am a member of the Section Advisory Group (SAG) on Small and Rural Hospitals within the Section of Inpatient Care Practitioners. I am also a regular reviewer for ASHP's CV Review Program.
Why did you become involved in ASHP?
As a student and a new pharmacy practitioner, ASHP has helped me to be more confident with my knowledge and my practice. I always love the idea of giving back to the profession and ASHP has numerous opportunities for me to do that.
How would you explain the value of ASHP to a friend or colleague?
ASHP has many resources to improve your knowledge, your teaching abilities, and your professional development. I am particularly impressed with the board certification in pharmacotherapy specialty (BCPS) continuing education as I have applied multiple lessons that I have learned from this program to improve pharmaceutical care for my patients.
What is the value of ASHP for the profession?
ASHP represents the unified voice of health-system pharmacy professionals and advances the profession in multiple ways. Through ASHP, pharmacists have the opportunity to grow and practice at the top of their license.
