Emily Alexander currently practices as a relief pharmacist, and independent consultant on telepharmacy pharmacy practice. Her professional practice involves over 25 years of hospital pharmacy practice in Texas, Colorado, Utah, and Arizona. She is the former founder and CEO of Envision Telepharmacy, a telepharmacy company (2004 – 2015) that was an early innovator and provider of remote medication order review, electronic supervision of pharmacy technicians, and a semi-automated IV workflow management system. She is a recognized leader in telepharmacy, having successfully advanced the adoption of rule and regulation, authored papers, and implemented successful programs in the field. She has spoken regionally, nationally and internationally on topics involving telepharmacy. Dr. Alexander received her BS in pharmacy from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and Pharm.D. from Idaho State University.
Dr. Alexander has contributed to ASHP by serving in various roles. She served on the Section of Inpatient Care Practitioners Executive Committee as Director at Large and Chair, member of the Section’s Committee on Nominations, member of the ASHP Council on Public Policy and has represented both the Section and Texas as a Delegate in the ASHP House of Delegates (HOD). Dr. Alexander has also served on ASHP’s Joint Forum and Section Practice Advance Initiative Coordination Committee, has presented, moderated, and served as Program Chair for educational sessions at ASHP Midyear Clinical Meetings, was the featured presenter of an educational session at the ASHP Conference for Pharmacy Leaders, and has contributed as a member of the Conference for Pharmacy Leaders Steering Committee. She has moderated Networking Sessions and led multiple Small and Rural Hospital Caucuses held prior to the ASHP HOD meetings. Additionally, she contributed to the revision of ASHP Statements and Guidelines.
Dr. Alexander is a current and past member of the Section Advisory Group on Small and Rural Hospitals, member of the Texas Society of Health-System (TSHP) Council on Public Affairs and Advocacy, and of the El Paso Area of Health-System Pharmacists. She enjoys pharmacy advocacy, and worked on policy and advocacy efforts during her appointments to ASHP’s Council on Public Policy and to the TSHP Council on Public Affairs and Advocacy. Dr. Alexander especially appreciates the high desert climate and long vistas offered in the far west Texas mountains, where she lives in the remote and rural town of Alpine.
