Ashley Bowden
Her Story
Dr. Bowden received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from The Ohio State University in 2015. Dr. Bowden then completed a combined PGY1/PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration residency at the University of Utah Health and a Master of Science in Health-System Pharmacy Administration from the University of Utah College of Pharmacy. She is also board certified in Pharmacotherapy.
Facility
The University of Utah Health is the only academic medical center in the Mountain West. It serves patients in over 5 states and approximately 10% of the continental United States. The University of Utah Health is comprised of five hospitals, 12 community clinics, and 17 retail pharmacies including specialty pharmacy services. The University Hospital, Huntsman Cancer Hospital, and Neilson Rehabilitation Hospital encompasses 748 beds and community clinics have approximately 2 million patient visits per year.
Recent Significant Projects
Dr. Bowden recently led a massive remodel including the replacement of seven medication carousels in the central pharmacies at University Hospital and Huntsman Cancer Hospital. She also continues to assist in cleanroom downtimes and remodels across the health system to continue to meet USP standards.
Initial Involvement in ASHP
I currently serve as a member of the SICP SAG on Compounding Practice.
Why did you become involved in ASHP?
I originally got involved with ASHP as a student because I worked in a health system and wanted to learn more about the profession. I stayed involved because I have found my participation in the advisory groups a great way to network and further contribute to the profession.
Advice for Someone New to Specialty Area
I would recommend that anyone new to my specialty area should be curious, ask questions, and don't be afraid to jump in with pharmacy technicians and pharmacists to learn more about the frontline.
How would you explain the value of ASHP to a friend or colleague?
The education and involvement opportunities provided by ASHP span all stages of the pharmacy profession. From pharmacy technicians to pharmacy interns, new practitioners, and experienced pharmacists ASHP provides something for everyone.
What is the value of ASHP for the profession?
ASHP discusses current issues and provides recommendations and guidance for all.
