Advice for Someone New to Your Specialty Area

"I would recommend that students, residents, and new practitioners seek out mentors in their field to help them transition into their new position (i.e., residency or clinical specialist/faculty position). I would not be where I am today without mentors who were willing to listen to me when I was struggling, encourage me when I needed it, and push me where I needed to grow. I would also recommend that they get involved in professional organizations like ASHP to network with other practitioners and experts in the field. The relationships that I have developed with other colleagues in professional organizations have been pivotal for my career and beyond that many have become life-long friends."

Involvement in ASHP

"I became involved with ASHP as a P1 student in pharmacy school. I was always interested in health-system pharmacy and was encouraged by ASHP's mission to emphasize the role of a pharmacist in a health-system setting. Then, I continued my involvement as a new faculty member within our local ASHP-affiliate and now at the national level within several initiatives with the Section of Clinical Specialists and Scientists."

ASHP’s Value to Members

"With respect to residency training, ASHP has taken the lead on establishing quality post-graduate programs within health-systems for pharmacists in direct patient care roles. Through their efforts, they have helped to impact the care of countless numbers of patients in health-systems across the U.S. by helping to expand pharmacy services.

"ASHP is the leading pharmacy organization for health-system pharmacists and has led the way in countless initiatives to help patient care."
