Jamielynn Sebaaly

Her Story

Jamielynn C. Sebaaly, Pharm.D., BCPS received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy and completed a 2-year ASHP-accredited residency in Pharmacotherapy at the Medical University of South Carolina.

This year, Dr. Sebaaly will serve on the ASHP Educational Steering Committee (Year-Round Education) and the Council on Pharmacy Practice. In 2017-2018, she was the Infectious Diseases Network Facilitator for the Clinical Specialists and Scientists Section(SCSS). As a Network Facilitator, Dr. Sebaaly periodically posted updates on clinical topics to the CSS listserv and moderated a networking session on “hot topics” in Infectious Diseases at the 2017 ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting. Prior to this, she was a member of the to New Practitioners Forum’s Professional Practice Advisory Group and moderated a session on credentialing and privileging at the 2016 ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting.

Overview of Facility/Health System

Dr. Sebaaly is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy at Wingate University School of Pharmacy and a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Internal Medicine at Carolinas Medical Center (CMC). CMC is an 874-bed academic teaching hospital and is the largest institution within Atrium Health (formerly Carolinas HealthCare System).

Significant Projects

Dr. Sebaaly currently serves as the Residency Program Coordinator for the PGY-1 residency program at CMC. She has also assisted in the development and management of the CMC Student Scholars Program which was developed to help prepare students for post-graduate residency training and advanced practice roles. While at Wingate and CMC, she has precepted students and residents on clinical rotations, medication use evaluations, research projects, and didactic lectures. Dr. Sebaaly's current research interests include medication dosing in obesity, HIV, and experiential education.

Initial Involvement in ASHP

Advice for Someone New to Your Specialty Area

"I would recommend that someone new to academia or internal medicine identify a mentor who can facilitate and promote professional development. A mentor can provide support, guidance, and feedback in any number of areas. Don't be afraid to ask someone you admire to be your mentor! Set up regular meetings with your mentor and go into the meetings with defined goals of what you'd like to get out of the mentor/mentee relationship as far as career advice, professional development, etc. It will certainly be a rewarding experience!"
