Initial Involvement in ASHP
"I became involved with ASHP to advocate for and advance our profession. ASHP provides a number of resources to health-system pharmacists that are truly invaluable. It is also a great way to network and work with pharmacists in other geographic areas."
Advice for Someone New to Your Specialty Area
"I would recommend that someone new to academia or internal medicine identify a mentor who can facilitate and promote professional development. A mentor can provide support, guidance, and feedback in any number of areas. Don't be afraid to ask someone you admire to be your mentor! Set up regular meetings with your mentor and go into the meetings with defined goals of what you'd like to get out of the mentor/mentee relationship as far as career advice, professional development, etc. It will certainly be a rewarding experience!"
Value of ASHP
"ASHP is an advocate for the pharmacy profession and continues to push pharmacists to practice at the highest level. ASHP develops policies, guidelines, and other statements that highlight evidence-based best practices. ASHP provides its members with a variety of other resources, including CE, tool kits, and practice advancement initiatives."
