Christopher Betz
Christopher Betz is a Professor within the Department of Clinical and Administrative Sciences at the Sullivan University College of Pharmacy (SUCOP) in Louisville, Kentucky. He joined Sullivan in August of 2009 and practices as a Cardiology Clinical Pharmacy Specialist with the Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiovascular Surgery Services at the Jewish Hospital Rudd Heart & Lung Center. Prior to his current position Betz practiced within Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans and taught at Xavier University of Louisiana (XULA), and the University of Louisiana Monroe (ULM) Colleges of Pharmacy.
He earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree at Temple University in Philadelphia and completed a pharmacy practice residency at the University of Louisville.
Betz has held multiple appointed and elected positions within ASHP, and its state affiliates both in Louisiana and Kentucky. He was elected to the Board of Directors and appointed Chair of the Committee on Public Policy within both states. He was also President of the Louisiana Society of Health-System Pharmacists (LSHSP). Additionally, Betz has served ASHP as a Delegate from both states, as Chair of the ASHP Council on Pharmacy Practice, Cardiology Networking Facilitator for the Section of Clinical Specialists and Scientists (SCSS), Chair of both the SCSS Executive Committee and Committee on Nominations. He has served the American College of Cardiology Kentucky Chapter as a Session Chair and a member of the Scientific Committee, which he now Co-Chairs. He has been an item writer for the NAPLEX and is now a member of the NAPLEX Review Committee. Betz serves as a reviewer for several periodicals, as a content matter expert for the ASHP Pharmacotherapy Board Certification Review and Recertification Course, and as a member of the Kentucky Medicaid Pharmacy Technical Advisory Committee.
In addition, Betz has had the fortune of being recognized by his colleagues and students. Some of these accolades include: Clinical Preceptor of the Year from the XULA Class of 2004 and the SUCOP Class of 2013, Pharmacist of the Year from SELSHP & KSHP, ASHP CEO Award for Courageous Service at Ochsner Clinic Foundation during Hurricane Katrina, Teacher of the Year from the ULM Class of 2010 and SUCOP Classes of 2012, 2015, & 2016, ASHP Fellow, and KSHP Fellow.
