What kind of advice would you provide for someone new to your specialty area?
My advice, from both critical care and pharmacy administration, is to focus on building relationships with all team members, bring positive curiosity, and foster effective collaboration amongst all team members. Secondly, find what brings you passion, and intentionally seek out opportunities to further refine your skills and experience in those areas.
What is your current involvement with ASHP?
My current involvement with ASHP is in the Section of Clinical Specialists and Scientists. After several years on the Clinical Leadership Section Advisory Group as both a member and work group lead, I currently serve as the SAG Secretary. While involved with the Section of Clinical Specialists and Scientists, I was also recently a member of the ASHP Council on Therapeutics.
Why did you become involved in ASHP?
I became involved with ASHP as a pharmacy student due to my interest in hospital pharmacy, desire to meaningfully engage with the profession, and to develop my leadership skills. I’ve been fortunate to have maintained involvement as an advisory group member through the Pharmacy Student Forum, New Practitioners Forum, and the Section of Clinical Specialists and Scientists. These experiences have accelerated my growth as a leader and collaborator.
How would you explain the value of ASHP to a friend or colleague?
As a member-driven organization, the value of ASHP comes from what you put into it. ASHP offers countless resources to its membership to increase individual knowledge and to give its members effective tools to improve patient care. ASHP offers numerous training programs and leadership positions to help its members develop to their fullest potential as practitioners and leaders. I appreciate ASHP’s desire to hear the voice of its members and proactively seek opportunities to effectively engage members from a variety of personal and professional backgrounds.
What is the value of ASHP for the profession?
ASHP offers value to the pharmacy profession by serving as a collective voice and advocating on behalf of its members to advance healthcare. Secondly, ASHP invests back in its membership to add value to the profession through education and training resources to increase the collective knowledge of the members of our profession.
