Bhavik M. Shah
2024 Distinguished Service Award Winner
After graduating with his PharmD from Rutgers University in 2008, Shah completed a postgraduate year 1 (PGY1) pharmacy practice and postgraduate year 2 (PGY2) infectious diseases residencies at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital (TJUH). Shah then joined the faculty at the Jefferson College of Pharmacy, where he was most recently an associate professor of pharmacy practice. In his academic role, he was a clinical pharmacist for the hospital medicine service, precepting introductory and advanced pharmacy practice experiential students. He precepted TJUH PGY1 and PGY2 infectious disease residents on their didactic teaching experiences. From 2019 to2024, Shah also served as a co-director of the pharmacology thread for the Jeff MD program at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Jefferson. Shah developed innovative teaching strategies and assessments that earned him two teaching awards during his 14 years at Jefferson. His research focused on the scholarship of teaching and learning while at Jefferson. In 2024, Shah transitioned out of academia and joined Merck as a director of global scientific training in infectious diseases.
Shah has been a dedicated member of ASHP and ACCP for the past decade. For ASHP, he has served on several committees in the Clinical Specialists and Scientists Section, including Preceptor Skills Development and Educational Steering Committee (year-round), having served as vice-chair and chair for both groups. Most recently, he is a member of the Midyear Clinical Meeting Educational committee. He has also served on the Committee of Nominations for SCSS and the Section of Pharmacy Educators, and as a Best Practices Award reviewer for four years. He has delivered several Midyear Clinical Meeting presentations and podcasts, on topics ranging from infectious diseases to personal finance.
