Advice for Someone New to Specialty Area
Don't be afraid to pursue residency in whatever specialty in which you are interested. I know it seems like an extra year of training but it really helps getting that baseline knowledge base started. Working with medical residents has been an excellent way to establish pharmacists as valued members of the healthcare team.
How would you explain the value of ASHP to a friend or colleague?
The education and the ability to reach out to other pharmacists via ASHP Connect has proven its value when you get into unusual circumstances. It has really helped, especially during the pandemic, to know what is going on in other parts of the country. It has allowed pharmacists to compare notes and take ideas from other places.
What is the value of ASHP for the profession?
Being involved with ASHP helps to promote and further the profession of pharmacy and allows pharmacists to practice at the top of their license. Advocating for pharmacists will help attain provider status and cement their position on the healthcare team.
