Her Story

Dr. Libby Stabler is an ambulatory clinical pharmacist at Parkview Physicians Group (PPG) in Montpelier, Ohio. Dr. Stabler received her PharmD degree from the University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio in 2020. She then went on to complete her PGY-1 residency and PGY-2 ambulatory care residency at Mercy Health St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima, Ohio. Thus far in her career, Dr. Stabler has had the opportunity to gain a wide variety of pharmacy experiences in both inpatient and outpatient settings. As a PGY-1 resident, Dr. Stabler completed rotations in internal medicine, cardiology, intensive care, infectious diseases, neurology, nephrology, ambulatory care, and medication safety. During her PGY-2 ambulatory care residency, she further increased her knowledge through her experiences in primary care, anticoagulation, diabetes, emergency medicine, population health/transitions of care, administration, and teaching. Prior to residency training, Dr. Stabler was a pharmacy intern at both Rite Aid Pharmacy and the University of Findlay’s Medication Therapy Management & Telehealth Center. Currently, her main areas of interest are primary care, diabetes, and anticoagulation. She also has a passion for precepting pharmacy students, and she is very excited for any opportunities to expand ambulatory care services to reach as many patients as possible.

At Parkview Physicians Group (PPG) in Montpelier, Ohio, Dr. Stabler works under a collaborative practice agreement with the physicians for both diabetes and warfarin management. She also completes Medicare Annual Wellness visits for eligible patients. Lastly, she may be asked to provide medication reviews, patient education, drug information responses, and interprofessional education. Since she is new to the site, Dr. Stabler will start precepting students during the 2023-2024 academic year.

Describe the facility where you work (eg. Is it a teaching hospital? Health Center? 

Parkview Physicians Group (PPG) in Montpelier, Ohio is a primary care office consisting of four physicians, three nurse practitioners, and one clinical pharmacist. This is only one of over 40 Parkview Physicians Group locations. Parkview Physicians Group is a part of Parkview Health, which is a not-for-profit, community-based health system based out of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Parkview Health serves a northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio population of more than 895,000.

Recent Significant Projects

Since starting her career with Parkview Physicians Group (PPG) in August 2022, Dr. Stabler has been very involved in implementing Medicare Annual Wellness visits within the office. She has alsobeen taking over warfarin management for patients in the office, as well as continuing to manage patients with diabetes.

Initial Involvement in ASHP

Dr. Stabler was recently selected as a member of the ASHP Section Advisory Group on Ambulatory Care Pharmacotherapy.

Why did you become involved in ASHP? 

Dr. Stabler became involved in ASHP as a student to network with colleagues and to explore different pharmacy career opportunities. As a new ambulatory care practitioner, Dr. Stabler has remained involved in ASHP to continue to network and collaborate with other pharmacists on a national level.

Advice for Someone New to Specialty Area 

Building relationships with the providers you work with is the first step to ensuring your patients receive the best care they possibly can. As a new ambulatory care pharmacist, take the extra time to interact with and get to know the providers in your office. This can be especially important if you are working with providers who have never previously worked with an ambulatory care pharmacist, as you can help them better understand your role and the benefits you can provide to patients.

How would you explain the value of ASHP to a friend or colleague?

Involvement in ASHP provides pharmacists with excellent opportunities to share ideas, network, and collaborate with colleagues throughout the country. ASHP is a great platform for advocating for the advancement of the profession of pharmacy, as well as advocating for safe and effective care for patients. Along with this, ASHP provides many resources to pharmacists, including opportunities for completing continuing education, attending meetings and conferences, and exploring career options.

What is the value of ASHP for the profession?

ASHP is very important to the profession of pharmacy, as it advocates for advancement of the profession and supports pharmacists in numerous different healthcare settings. ASHP also provides many opportunities for networking and collaboration with pharmacists across the country.
