Describe the facility where you work (eg. Is it a teaching hospital? Health Center?)
Dr. Thompson works with a large insurance company with health, and wellness services. The company serves over 15,000 members in the Charleston area, and she works collaboratively with other care team members (RNs, MDs, care coordinators, and NPs) to achieve whole person care and health. The mission is to transform the experience that we provide to seniors-working to meet their social, emotional, and medical needs. Our facility achieves this through a whole person health, and deep connections with the patient.
Recent Significant Projects
I have been working on expanding the pharmacist reach, and building programs/processes to support clinical activities that include comprehensive medication reviews, provision of drug information services, chronic disease management and education, participation in cost-reducing and quality-enhancing activities, and supportive relationship building through multichannel (in-person, telephonic, virtual) interactions with patients, caregivers, and the surrounding healthcare community.
Initial Involvement in ASHP
I am a member of the SACP SAG on Clinical Practice Advancement.
Why did you become involved in ASHP?
I became involved with ASHP because I wanted to help give back to the profession and support other Ambulatory care pharmacist around the country.
Advice for Someone New to Specialty Area
The best I can give someone in this area is to be passionate about patient care, driven to achieve/learn new things, and willing to learn from others around you.
How would you explain the value of ASHP to a friend or colleague?
I believe that ASHP is very valuable. I would tell a friend that ASHP provides many opportunities for pharmacist to grow their area of expertise. This includes: networking, CEs, conferences, and study material.
