Micaela Warfield

Micaela Warfield is a PGY1 Pharmacy Resident at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. She received her PharmD from the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy – Duluth and currently serves on the New Practitioners Forum Personal Development Advisory Group.

My professional interests include critical care and educational leadership (e.g. experiential education, residency leadership, internship, etc.)

Why did you become involved in ASHP?
Having gotten involved on a regional level and seeing how local ASHP groups can make an impact for pharmacy members locally, I wanted to expand my experience and make an impact on a larger scale.

What would you tell others if asked how to get involved with ASHP?
I like to encourage others to determine what sparks their interest and get involved on a smaller scale. As your interests grow and you get comfortable with smaller scale opportunities, continue to expand your involvement and network. This will help bring in new opportunities and show how valuable involvement on a larger scale can be. ASHP has tons of opportunities for students, learners, and practicing pharmacists. Take a chance on something that interests you and you will be surprised where it can take you.

What unique characteristic/perspective do you bring to your everyday work or the pharmacy profession?
I like to think about process improvements when I see errors or inefficiencies. I think this helps the team continually improve not only our patient centered care, but also the processes we utilize to implement the best care.

What do you like to do for fun? What are some of your interests/hobbies outside of pharmacy?
Hiking, camping, fishing, running, baking, crafting, and reading

What advice would you give to other new practitioners?
Keep asking questions - you won't learn if you don't ask when something is unclear.
