Reasons for selecting pharmacy:

Ever since I can remember I have always wanted to have a role within the medical field due to my innate desire to help others. After shadowing a family member, who is also a pharmacist, I realized that this field offers the perfect balance between patient care interaction and intervention. I was amazed by the strong relationships that she had formed with her patients and their appreciation for her being a part of their clinical care team. As I progressed through my schooling, my love has grown for what makes pharmacy stand out from the rest of the medical field- accessibility and expertise. These two characteristics are critical for the reasoning behind patients seeking help from pharmacists when they have a medication-related question at the drug store or a new medical resident asking for guidance on renal-dose adjusting an antibiotic. I am proud to have chosen a profession that is often utilized and leaned-on within the medical community and general public. After graduation, I am excited to build trust and serve as a reputable resource for my patients and colleagues.

Interest in the PSF Executive Committee:

Since my first professional year of pharmacy school, it was important to me to be involved in organizations that align with my future aspirations early on. Wilkes University’s SSHP was one of the first organizations that I joined and obtained a leadership in. I served as my SSHP’s Community Outreach Chair for two years where I advocated for volunteerism as well as planned and executed community service and philanthropy activities for the chapter. This position encouraged me to continue my involvement in ASHP and grow my professional identity at the national level.

I became a member of the Pharmacy Student Forum Student Society Development Advisory Group and made lasting connections with the student pharmacists who I served with. This opportunity allowed me to network with fellow student pharmacists who share similar interests in progressing student development and advocating for the pharmacy profession. After a positive and inspiring year with my advisory group, I applied for the Pharmacy Student Forum Executive Committee and was fortunate enough to be selected. I am honored to be given the opportunity to represent student pharmacists across the country and look forward to working with my fellow Committee leaders and staff to support the needs of ASHP student members.

How being a member of ASHP has assisted in my personal and professional development:

My membership with ASHP has been a large contributor to my personal and professional development throughout my pharmacy education. My involvement at the school and national level has provided me with innumerable opportunities to hone my leadership, organizational, communication, and time management skills. ASHP has connected me with a mentor through the Guided Mentorship Program who I still keep in contact with regularly. I also have utilized the many resources that ASHP offers to its members such as the CV review, residency directory, Student Residency Guide, and Leadership Journal Club resources to name a few examples. I cannot be more appreciative of the cumulative impact ASHP has had on my current and future pharmacy career.

Goals for the year as a PSFEC Member:

  • Strengthen the development of SSHPs by providing and promoting existing resources related to wellness, membership growth, DEI, and leadership development
  • Empower student pharmacists to become involved within the ASHP organization at the local, state, and national level
  • Inform student pharmacists of traditional and non-traditional post-graduate opportunities and emphasize the importance of early exposure to these avenues
  • Establish opportunities for networking through programming and events

Fun Fact:

I am an avid skier and helped establish a ski & snowboard club at my university!
