Tyler Vest

2021 Distinguished Service Award Winner

Tyler A. Vest is a Pharmacy Manager of Automation, Medication Distribution, and Controlled Substances at Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina. In this position, he oversees the automated dispensing cabinets, medication delivery and distribution, and controlled substances for the department of pharmacy. He serves as a preceptor and advisor for residents and students, and is actively involved in research at his institution. Dr. Vest is also an Assistant Professor of Clinical Education at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. His current interest areas are Acute Care Operations, Leadership Development, Oncology, Practice, and Pharmacy Technician Advancement, Pharmacy Practice and Distribution Models, Productivity and Monitoring, and the Medication Use Process.

Dr. Vest completed his Doctor of Pharmacy at the University of Cincinnati James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy and his Master of Science Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences with a Specialization in Health-System Pharmacy Administration at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Dr. Vest completed his PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency and PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration Residency Programs at the University of North Carolina Medical Center.

He is actively involved in ASHP. He currently serves as a member of the Section of Pharmacy Practice Leaders Advisory Group of New and Emerging Leaders, has served as the Chair and Vice Chair of the New Practitioners Forum (NPF) Executive Committee. Dr. Vest is a North Carolina State Delegate for the ASHP House of Delegates, and has served as a Delegate and Alternate Delegate for the NPF. He has served as a Chair, Executive Committee Liaison, and Member on multiple advisory groups in both the NPF and Pharmacy Student Forum. He is a member of the ASHP Advocacy and PAC Advisory Committee. Dr. Vest is a prolific author, and is an Associate Editor for AJHP. On the state level, he is actively involved in his ASHP State Affiliate, the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists (NCAP).
