Samreena Rasheed
Samreena Rasheed is a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist who graduated with her PharmD from Midwestern University Chicago College of Pharmacy in 2014. Her training also includes completion of the Northwestern Medicine’s Leading with Excellence Program and ASHP’s Medication Safety Certificate.
Current Responsibilities:
Rasheed oversees the clinical operations in the Northwest Region of Northwestern Medicine and has experience with a variety of settings in her clinical practice including emergency medicine, medical-surgical, intensive care, and outpatient oncology. In her role as a regional clinical coordinator, Rasheed builds relationships with senior leadership and front line staff to plan and implement local, regional, and system-wide changes to provide effective and efficient patient-centered care. Rasheed is actively involved in developing front-line staff through research, regional and system-wide initiatives, education, and practice changes.
Facility:
Northwestern Medicine is one of the largest health systems in Chicago in which Huntley, McHenry, and Woodstock are under the Northwest Region.
Recent Significant Projects:
I lead regional Pharmacy & Therapeutics efforts, which are an integral part in assessing non-formulary requests, practice changes, policy alignments, and formulary standardization. I've been involved with regional smart pump library improvements with respect to building standards and incorporating professional organization recommendations to incorporate safety parameters in medication infusions. I have also worked towards enhancing clinical decision support to guide prescribing of high-alert, high-cost medications and understanding front-line work to improve practice and build efficiencies with the tools and technology we use on a daily basis.
Advice for Someone New to a Specialty Area:
Pharmacy is a profession in which the degree opens numerous avenues beyond retail and hospital. Seize the opportunities that are offered, more doors will open for you than you imagined!

I was interested in exploring practice outside of my institution and collaborating with like-minded pharmacists to learn, share, and bring back ideas to better practice.

Building professional relationships in the workplace is important for your personal career, building relationships within national organizations is essential to progressing practice for the system.
Value of ASHP for the Profession:
It's a platform to build collaboratives and influence change at a broad level — from clinical practice to national policies.
