Professional Interests:
My professional interests lie in critical care pharmacy and emergency medicine. I am deeply passionate about these fields because they allow pharmacists to apply advanced pharmacokinetic principles and pharmaceutical expertise to optimize patient outcomes. As critical care pharmacists, we serve as advocates for patient safety and care, often representing the needs of those who cannot advocate for themselves.
Why did you become involved in ASHP?
I became involved in ASHP because I wanted to connect with like-minded professionals who share a commitment to advancing pharmacy practice and improving patient care. ASHP offers incredible opportunities for growth, including networking, professional development, and staying informed about the latest advancements in the field. Being part of this organization has allowed me to contribute to the profession while learning from others and expanding my perspective on what pharmacists can achieve.
What would you tell others if asked how to get involved with ASHP?
I’d encourage others to start by exploring ASHP’s resources and identifying areas that align with their interests, whether it’s clinical specialties, leadership, or advocacy. Joining student chapters, attending meetings, or volunteering for committees are great first steps. ASHP also offers mentorship opportunities and networking events that can help build connections and open doors for involvement. Most importantly, don’t hesitate to reach out to current members—they’re often eager to share advice and help others get involved.
What unique characteristics do you bring to your everyday work of the pharmacy profession?
I bring a combination of adaptability, attention to detail, and a proactive mindset to my work. I excel at collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to solve complex problems, especially in high-pressure environments like critical care. My ability to effectively communicate and build relationships ensures that I can advocate for patients and contribute to optimized outcomes. Additionally, I approach each day with a commitment to continuous learning, which helps me stay at the forefront of evidence-based practice and deliver the highest standard of care.
What are some of your interest or hobbies outside of pharmacy?
Outside of pharmacy, I enjoy hiking, cooking, and reading, which helps me unwind and stay balanced. I’m also passionate about volunteering, as it allows me to connect with others and explore new skills. These hobbies not only recharge me but also bring a fresh perspective to my professional life, enhancing creativity and resilience.
What advice would you give to other new practitioners?
My advice to new practitioners is to embrace every opportunity to learn and grow, even in challenging situations. Don’t be afraid to ask questions—curiosity and a willingness to seek help are signs of strength, not weakness. Build relationships with mentors and colleagues; their guidance and collaboration can make a world of difference. Lastly, stay patient with yourself—it takes time to develop confidence and find your rhythm in practice. Trust the process and keep striving to improve every day.
