Amanda Mauerman

Her Story

Dr. Mauerman received her PharmD. degree from South Dakota State University in 2013. She then went on to complete an ASHP Accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency and PGY2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison, WI. Following completion of residency, she worked as a Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) Clinical Pharmacist for two clinics in Northern Illinois until 2016. In 2016, she transitioned to her current practice site at Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, WI. She currently works as a Patient Center Medical Home (PCMH) Ambulatory Clinical Pharmacist for two Internal Medicine Clinics within the enterprise. Additionally, she has served as the PGY2 Ambulatory Care Residency Program Director since November 2017. Dr. Mauerman obtained her BCACP in 2015.

Facility

The Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin regional health network is a partnership between Freodtert Health and the Medical College of Wisconsin. This health network includes five hospitals and nearly 40 health centers and clinics. Dr. Mauerman's clinics are located within Froedert & Medical College of Wisconsin Froedtert Hospital which is the primary adult teaching affiliate for the Medical College of Wisconsin. The clinic has a collaborative relationship with the Medical College of Wisconsin Internal Medicine Residency and Dr. Mauerman, along with pharmacy students and residents work very closely with the medical residents and attending physicians utilizing collaborative practice agreements for chronic disease state management. 

Recent Significant Projects

 Dr. Mauerman has been involved with the expansion of the Clinical Pharmacist's role within a local free clinic focusing on depression and anxiety management. Additionally, she has been working on further development of an Ambulatory Care Preceptor Development Series for preceptors within the enterprise. She is currently beginning work on service development within the Women's Health clinic and will be focused on Collaborative Practice Agreement development and pharmacist expansion of services. 

Initial Involvement in ASHP

She was recently appointed to serve in the Section of Ambulatory Care Practitioners as a member of the Ambulatory Care Pharmacotherapy Section Advisory Group. 

Why did you become involved in ASHP? 

Dr. Mauerman became involved in ASHP as a student to learn more about opportunities within Health-System pharmacy in particular to learn more about preparing for a clinical residency track. She maintained involvement within ASHP due to the networking opportunities, the continuing education resources, and the clinical resources available to focus on further clinical practice advancement and advocacy. 

Advice for Someone New to Specialty Area

Place a strong priority in establishing relationships with not only your pharmacy colleagues, but all members of your interdisciplinary team. These relationships will definitely come in handy throughout your career.
