Where are you located?
The Donald E. Francke Memorial Library (DEFML) is located at the ASHP Headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland.
What should I do if I am interested in viewing the collection onsite?
The DEFML is a closed collection, meaning that you must first make an appointment. Please fill out the request form to schedule an appointment.
Am I able to take items out of the DEFML?
No, items are not to be removed. If possible, parts of the collection may be photocopied for inquirers.
I need an article from AJHP. Can I ask you?
Actually, all ASHP members have online access to the current and past copies of AJHP. Please visit www.ajhp.org to obtain the needed article.
I am interested in donating to the DEFML –what should I do?
Thank you! ASHP welcomes your contributions. If you are interested in donating a personal collection or individual items, please fill out the request form and the Archivist will contact you.
Please note:
- Items should be donated as a comprehensive group whenever possible
- Items should contain a specific significance to the growth of the profession and/or the history of ASHP
- Items of interest would include speeches, notes, memorabilia, correspondences, curriculum vitae, bibliographies
- All donations and gifts become the property of ASHP.
- Only materials within the scope of the collection will be retained. Those items that do not and/or duplicates will be with be sent back to the original owner or discarded.
- All materials will be preserved as best as possible
- Please, do not send any materials to the DEFML until you have spoken to the Archivist.

I am going to be in Bethesda and am interested in having a tour. Can I?
Yes, please fill out the request form and include when you will be in Bethesda. The Archivist can give you a thirty minute tour of the Francke Office and the DEFML.
I am looking for a photo of someone – do you have it?
Please fill out the request form and the Archivist will check the archives for the picture.
How can I look at material that someone had donated to the archives?
Please fill out the request form and if possible, the Archivist will scan the material and either email or mail you the photocopy.
Is this everything in the DEFML?
The Archives is a work in progress. Not all donations have been sorted and developed into Finding Aids. As new items are cataloged, changes to the website will be made.
I am interested in viewing one of your oral histories. Can I see it?
