ASHP’s Midyear Clinical Meeting: There’s Nothing Like It
Dear Colleagues,
The 59th ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting & Exhibition will begin in New Orleans, Louisiana, in just a few days. I am already excited for what promises to be an incredible week for our profession!
This year’s theme, There’s Nothing Like It, truly captures the essence of ASHP’s Midyear. As the largest gathering of pharmacy professionals in the world, the clinical research and professional development opportunities, as well as immense idea-sharing and networking events, are beyond compare.
Recognizing the importance of supporting the pharmacy profession's diverse clinical needs, our organization held the first Midyear in 1966 as a platform for sharing advancements, fostering education, and celebrating outstanding contributions in pharmacy practice.
Since then, the Midyear meeting has evolved into the premier gathering of pharmacy professionals across all career stages as ASHP seeks to advance professional excellence and help attendees stay at the forefront of patient care.
This year’s meeting is packed with opportunities to learn, connect, and grow. We have 198 clinical and professional development sessions, 529 expert speakers, 236 hours of continuing education credits, and nearly 4,800 posters.
Along with the advanced clinical content that the Midyear is known for, our featured programming spans a wide array of topics, from artificial intelligence (AI) and digital health to sterile compounding, drug shortages, opioid management, and more. Tailored sessions ensure everyone who attends will benefit — whether you’re a student exploring career options, a pharmacy technician advancing your skills, a pharmacist serving rural communities or federal services, or a seasoned professional seeking to sharpen your leadership skills.
The Midyear’s Spotlight on Science will discuss cutting-edge technologies shaping pharmacy’s future. A late-breaking session will discuss drug shortage policy and IV fluid updates, including lessons on acute large-volume parenteral products and a discussion of long-term policy solutions.
The opening session will feature Dr. Sanjay Gupta, the multiple Emmy® award-winning chief medical correspondent for CNN and host of the CNN podcast Chasing Life, as well as an author and neurosurgeon. On Wednesday, futurist and AI expert Mike Walsh, who spoke at ASHP Pharmacy Futures 2024, returns to discuss disruptive technology and business leadership that will transform organizations and healthcare.
This year, we also honor the extraordinary legacy of Sara J. White, past ASHP president and an inspirational pharmacy icon. Join us for a special celebration of Sara’s life on Dec. 10 as we reflect on her immense contributions.
I also encourage you to visit the poster hall for insights you can take back to your practice. If you can’t attend, you can view all the poster abstracts in an AJHP special supplement available online in January.
Please also visit ASHP’s News Center and look out for the Midyear Daily News emails next week, which will feature live session coverage and videos. To join the conversation on our social media accounts, follow us on @ASHPOffical using #ASHP24.
Midyear is more than just an event; it celebrates pharmacy’s transformative role in healthcare. It is an opportunity for our profession to connect, innovate, and support the future of our profession. I hope this year’s Midyear leaves us all inspired and ready to tackle the opportunities and challenges in the year ahead.
Thank you for all you do for your patients and our profession.
Sincerely,
Paul
