For this special Mother’s Day episode, we are highlighting the unique relationship between mothers and daughters who also happen to both be pharmacists. They share experiences and how pharmacy has influenced and bonded them together in a unique way.

SPEAKERS

Maria Carias Maria F. Carias, M.B.A., M.S., is the Director of Member Operations within the ASHP Office of Member Relations. In this role, Ms. Carias coordinates the operational logistics for various ASHP initiatives. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Public Policy from American University and both her Master’s of Science in Project Management and Master’s of Business Administration from the University of Maryland Global Campus. Ms. Carias was recognized as a 2020 recipient of the ASHP CEO Award for Staff Excellence.

Shelly SpiroShelly Spiro is Executive Director of Pharmacy HIT Collaborative. Spiro is active in national pharmacy associations, standards development organizations and is a leader in Pharmacy health IT. She is an ASCP Past President, 2014 Archambault Award recipient and 2019 Women’s Spotlight Award recipient. She was named in 2019 by Becker Hospital Review’s 102 women in health IT. She earned her BSPharm degree in 1976 from University of Illinois College of Pharmacy She has authored several articles and is a national speaker on topics on health IT

Diana QuachDr. Diana Quach currently practices as the Clinical Pharmacy Manager at OptumCare Nevada in Las Vegas. She is a Board Certified Geriatric Pharmacist and her variety of experience includes pharmacy consulting, operations, and transitions of care. Dr. Quach is currently serving on the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP) Board of Directors. Her formal training includes a doctorate of pharmacy from Roseman University and an Executive Residency in Association Management from ASCP in 2005.

Virginia WallaceVirginia Wallace has began practicing pharmacy after graduating from the University of Mississippi in 1980. She started as a staff pharmacist at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center and later was the first pharmacist there to practice in a clinical position. She obtained her BCPS certification in 2006 and her Pharm D in 2008. During these years she had 4 daughters and was active in their school and church activities. She now is a clinical pharmacist at Methodist Hospital in Olive Branch, MS.

Delia CariasDelia Charest Carias is the Medication Use Policy Coordinator at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. She received her Pharm.D. Degree from Samford University, her PGY1 Pharmacy Practice at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, and her PGY2 HSPA Residency at Methodist LeBonheur Healthcare. Delia joined St. Jude in 2012. She is a member of the Pharmaceutical Services leadership team and is responsible for coordination of the P&T Committee and guideline/formulary management. She has a strong interest in performance improvement and change management.

Stacey PierceStacey Pierce is a graduate of The University of Georgia College of Pharmacy, where she was actively involved in and led many pharmacy student organizations. She has since worked in both HMO and community pharmacy settings. Her pharmacist daughter recently married a pharmacist, bringing the total number of pharmacists in the family to 7, including a nephew who will be a P2 this fall.

Gabrielle PierceDr. Gabrielle Pierce is currently the PGY1 Specialty Pharmacy Resident at the University of Illinois Chicago. She graduated from the University of South Carolina in May 2020 with her PharmD and MBA. Dr. Pierce’s interests include specialty pharmacy, administration and leadership, medical writing and academia.
