Incorporating Research into Cardiology Practice

Pharmacists are medication experts and have an important role in conducting research studies. In this podcast, Dr. Sarah Spinler, a past ASHP Foundation Literature Award for Sustained Contributions recipient, and Dr. Laney Jones discuss making research relevant to practice and building a research career through mentorship and interprofessional collaboration.

SPEAKERS

Sarah SpinlerSarah Spinler, PharmD, FCCP, FAHA, FSHP, AACC has served as a research fellowship and PGY1 and PGY2 Cardiology residency program director for 15 trainees and oversaw the pharmaceutical industry fellowship program at USciences. In 2019 she received the ACCP Cardiology Practice and Research Network’s Lifetime Achievement Award; in 2004 she received the ASHP Foundation Literature Award for Sustained Contributions.. In addition, she has collaborated with the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology on several writing panels and registries.

Laney JonesLaney K. Jones, PharmD, MPH, CLS, FNLA is an associate professor in the Department of Genomic Health at Geisinger. Jones received her Doctor of Pharmacy from Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, Master of Public Health from Mailman School of Public Health, and implementation science certificate from University of California San Francisco. In addition, she completed a K12 in implementation science at Washington University in St. Louis. Her research focuses on using implementation science to improve care delivery in cardiology and pharmacy.

Barbara B. NussbaumBarbara B. Nussbaum, BS Pharm, PhD joined the ASHP Foundation as the Vice President for Research and Education in 2015 after four years with the ASHP Office of Program Development as Director, Adult Learning and Educational Programs. Her role at the Foundation is to provide strategic direction for the creation and administration of high-impact programs in the areas of research and leadership recognition and development. Barbara received her pharmacy degree from the University of Maryland at Baltimore and doctoral degree from Virginia Tech in Adult Learning and Human Resources Development.
