In this episode, the team from the Atrium Health System discuss their award-winning submission to the ASHP Best Practices.  They will share how their program implemented a novel pharmacist-led DPYD testing program with CDS integration and demonstrated pre-treatment testing with genotype-guided fluoropyrimidine dosing improves patient safety by mitigating severe toxicities and hospitalizations in DPYD variant carriers.

SPEAKERS

Donald Moore Donald Moore (he/him) is the clinical oncology pharmacy manager at Atrium Health Levine Cancer in Charlotte, NC. He received his PharmD from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in Boston, MA and completed a postgraduate year 1 pharmacy practice residency at Steward St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Boston, MA. He is an active member of ASHP and serves on the ASHP Section Advisory Group on Emerging Sciences. 

Sarah L. HansonJai Patel  (he/him) is director of cancer pharmacology & pharmacogenomics at Atrium Health Levine Cancer Institute and associate director for basic science research at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center – Charlotte campus. He is also adjunct associate professor at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and completed an oncology pharmacogenomics fellowship at the UNC Center for Pharmacogenomics and Individualized Therapy. 

Sarah Morris Sarah Morris (she/her) received her PharmD from the University of California, San Diego and completed a postgraduate year 1 residency at Stanford Health Care and postgraduate year 2 residence in clinical pharmacogenomics at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. She is a clinical pharmacogenomics specialist at Atrium Health Levine Cancer Institute in Charlotte, NC where her work ranges from translational studies to clinical implementation of pharmacogenomics and integration of clinical decision support in the electronic health record.

Grace Nguyen Grace Nguyen (she/her) is currently a clinical pharmacogenomics pharmacist at Atrium Health Levine Cancer. She completed a postgraduate year 1 pharmacy residency at Ascension St. Joseph Hospital and a postgraduate year 2 residency in clinical pharmacogenomics at University of Chicago. She enjoys using her clinical and research skills to apply and implement pharmacogenomic testing in patient care while conducting research in this field. 

Sarah L. Hanson Sarah L. Hanson (she/her) is a hematology/oncology clinical pharmacist coordinator at Atrium Health Levine Cancer Institute and currently practices in the LCI Gastrointestinal (GI) Oncology Clinic in Charlotte, NC. She earned her PharmD from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and completed her postgraduate year 1 pharmacy residency and postgraduate year 2 oncology pharmacy Residency at Atrium Health’s Carolinas Medical Center and Levine Cancer institute. She is certified by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties as a Board-Certified Oncology Pharmacist. 

Vicki BasalygaVicki Basalyga, PharmD, MAS, BCPS, BCPPS is the director of member relations for the Clinical Specialists and Scientists at ASHP. In addition to her director role, Vicki assists in clinical policy development as the secretary for the Council on Therapeutics, serves as a representative for ASHP on numerous national clinical initiatives and works with members to create essential tools and resources for leaders, practitioners, and educators.
