Daniel M. Ashby, M.S., FASHP. Mr. Ashby retired July 1, 2020, as the Vice President and Chief Pharmacy Officer for The Johns Hopkins Health System after 20 years of service to Johns Hopkins, and an impressive career that spanned nearly 48-years in hospital and health-system pharmacy practice. He also currently serves as Clinical Professor at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy and Adjunct Professor at the College of Notre Dame of Maryland School of Pharmacy.
A career-long champion of pharmacy residency training, Mr. Ashby served as a preceptor for more than 325 pharmacy residents during his career, and as a mentor to many more residents and pharmacy leaders throughout health-system pharmacy. He re-established and expanded pharmacy residency training programs during his tenure at Johns Hopkins and served as Residency Program Director for the PGY1/PGY2 health-system pharmacy administration and leadership program. As Director of Pharmacy at Methodist Hospital in Memphis, Mr. Ashby led efforts to revitalize the pharmacy residency program enabling it to regain accreditation.
A long-time member of the ASHP Commission on Credentialing, Mr. Ashby played a key role in ensuring the quality of residency programs and setting training standards. He chaired the ASHP Residency Advisory Committee, which made nearly 40 recommendations to the Commission on Credentialing for improvements to ASHP's residency accreditation survey process. The process serves as a bridge between education and practice and is a critical driver for excellence.
As the inaugural chair of the ASHP International Accreditation Commission, his leadership was critical in designing pharmacy residency accreditation standards to navigate the world's diverse practices. Mr. Ashby was also a member and chair of the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education Accreditation Council, the body responsible for accrediting graduate medical education programs in the United States and Canada.
Mr. Ashby has received long list of awards and honors. Most recently the ASHP Foundation just announced the establishment of the Daniel M. Ashby Fund for Excellence in Pharmacy Residency Training (Ashby Fund). The Ashby Fund will support initiatives that recognize and enhance excellence in pharmacy residency training.
Dr. Niaz Deyhim received a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences at Texas A&M University – Kingsville, followed by a Doctor of Pharmacy from Texas A&M University Rangel College of Pharmacy, where she also achieved a balance between academic excellence and extracurricular involvements.
Niaz is currently employed at Houston Methodist Hospital as a Pharmacy Clinical Specialist. She recently completed a two-year Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership residency program at Houston Methodist Hospital with concurrent pursuit of a Master of Science in Pharmacy Leadership and Administration at University of Houston College of Pharmacy. The requirements that Niaz fulfilled during her residency program and graduate degree curriculum solidified her clinical and administrative foundations, thereby providing the tools to advance pharmacy practice. Her longterm goal is to create meaningful and enduring pharmacy services that improve patient care and inspire future generations of pharmacists. In addition, she is actively involved with the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Section of Pharmacy Practice Leaders, Texas Society of Health System Pharmacists, and Vizient Business of Pharmacy Enterprise Committee. Her professional interests include inpatient operations, research, regulatory compliance, academia, and medication safety. In addition, Niaz’s awards and accomplishments include the Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists Phyllis B. Ginsburg Memorial Scholarship and Leo F. and Ann Godley Residency Fellowship Award, Texas A&M University Rangel College of Pharmacy Dean’s Academic Achievement Award, and Kappa Psi Henry J. Goeckel Grand Council Scholarship Key Award.
